Calling Ye Fearless of Hearts!
For a voyage ripe of riches and peril into voids unknown to seek rewards beyond human imaginings and a death far more worthy than that of your station
Hello ya bunch of void jacks, I think it's time to have a stab at a game of Rogue Trader, and I am sending this out as a general interest check.
For those of you who are less familiar with the game, you would be portraying personae that are a cut above in prowess, station, and expertise of those you would find in games such as Dark Heresy and Only War. Together as the free crew of a grand voidship composed of Imperial Humans (and whatever ye clever warp dogs manage to get sanctioned), you will be blazing out into the realms beyond the God-Emperor's Holy Imperium on writ of free trade honored by the Administratum of Holy Terra itself for the one goal: to make the greatest riches and extents of power as you can for your beloved Emperor (or simply for yourself, if you've the black heart of the traitor in ye). This game is rather sandboxy, but revolves around the dreams and vision of the Rogue Trader(s) who possess the actual inheritance of privateerance and his or her or their loyal crew. Together you man vessels against those who would stand in your way, ponder the means of achieving grandiose goals beyond the reach of common men, and face the horrific unknowns in uncharted reaches beyond the Calixis; realspace or otherwise. The decisions you shall make in the names of profit hangs the fate of worlds and their inhabitants, and only the truly adventurous of hearts will take these paths in stride long enough to live in the lap of supreme fortune and reckoning. Are you up for this? Play itself fluctuates between the micro and macro; sometimes an endeavor takes a personal touch, taking you to explore a place with your own eyes and your own fingers gripping your best weapon. Sometimes actions cover lengths of time, pooling resources and research, finagling complex contracts, or even commanding extensive maneuvers over boarding raids. The game is as complex as you make it, but all actions are weighted against a strong element of danger, for even a single wrong turn navigating a ship could mean the death of not only yourself, but of those who relied upon ye. Take this warning to heart, the Expanse warrants no padding of regiments surrounding you, nor the caring, nurturing overwatch of an Inquisitor. Rogue Traders and their crew are often alone out there, and not only are your enemies many and varied, but many are such that possess resources that far outweigh your own capabilities. If interested, please post below said interest, and with it, a role you would wish to perform on this voyage. Every role in the Rogue Trader rulebook serves a critical role and will shape how the crew as a whole will function. While I am most familiar with the core rulebook, if you must play some oddity beyond it, please seek me out so that I may understand fully what it is you are bringing to the table. FOR PROFIT, AND THE EMPEROR OF MANKIND!!

Plug just reminded me that no servo skull could ever do justice to the memory of Morty. No servo skull characters, please.
So since there seems to be more people new to the game than I had expected, I shall go over the key roles in a Rogue Trader crew.
Arch-Militant: The crew's warmaster, the Arch-Militant is your complete badass of distinction. Whether they were soldiers, bodyguards, warriors, bounty hunters, or some other corner of the countless theaters of conflict, the Arch-Militant is a supreme veteran who has gained glory, or luck, enough to be considered to be taken into the personal crew of the Lord Captain.
Astropath Transcendent: Not just the party's psyker, to be an AT is to be one of the most gifted psykers in the human race could hope for, having been noted as such in the PC's sanctioning on Terra, and as such given a second special binding that brought them to be forever bound to the Emperor himself, so that they may be able to find His psychic beacon in the depths of the void. Not to be confused with your less uncommon astropath who serve in the ship's choir, the AT is to be part communications officer, part master wizard, who's powers can reach unimaginable distances.
Explorator: These bamf dudes are like the Adeptus Mechancus' personal Inquisitors. Given a streak of independence and the sacred task of collecting lost knowledge, the Explorators often attach themselves to Rogue Traders for the obvious benefit of going to places where tech priests rarely go. They are kind of mistrusted by your run-of-the-mill tech priests as part of their job entails them to subject their minds to things that may go against the strict, cold dogmas of the Machine Cult, even stepping into rudimentary understanding of Xeno or Heretech, but are so vital in their function that simply cannot be denied. Yes, they are tech priests like in so many 40k games, but these guys tend to be the most unique and colorful of lot. Plus, you can start with one of those cog-shaped power axes, which, I mean, that is awesome.
Missionary: The Crew's spiritual expert, Missionaries are tasked and trained to bring the Emperor's Light to new worlds and lost civilizations. Similar to Clerics in Dark Heresy, the missionary is a social warrior, but what separates the two is the Missionary's training in discerning what can and can not be tolerated when visiting worlds beyond. It is expected to find peoples who have outlandish, even alien beliefs, and it is the Missionary's job to be able to find what is salvageable and convertible to Imperial Creed, and perhaps more importantly, to sniff out the subtle hints of the Ruinous Powers as the crew subject themselves to encounter after encounter with strange new cultures. Missionaries know they are going in to interact with civilizations that would normally be met only with sweeping destruction by other authorities of hue he Ecclesiarchy, and are trained to do what they can within them.
Navigator: Hailing from one of the coveted noble Navigator Clans, the Navigator is a unique, sanctioned mutant who have been specifically bred within their clan to maintain a controlled mutation of a third eye that can literally see the Warp. It is the Navigator's honored task to maintain the course through warp travel, watching out for the many and constantly dangerous fluctuations that hazard the crew's travels, generally keeping everyone from accidentally traveling centuries into the past or future, or turning inside out and dancing to Slaanesh's new hot single. They can also kill people by looking at them with their creepy third eye, so that's pretty cool. While not true psykers that we are familiar with in these games, Navigators have access to all kinds of cool mutant warp powers that vary depending on which Clan they come from.
Seneschal: Part secret agent, part space-lawyer, the Seneschal is a slick master of commerce, logistics, ceremony, diplomacy, spying, networking, and occasionally knifing someone in the dark who's getting in the way of the ship's overall success. Mainly his job is to keep the Rogue Trader from doing something stupid and unprofitable, Seneschals have their head and hands in all things relating to the legacy of The Lord-Captain's Warrant of Trade. Often hailing from a Trader House themselves as master wards, they keep the ship's business in order, by any means necessary... While it's not like they assume the Rogue Trader is some kind of cross-eyed spacefaring jackass who couldn't tie his boots without precise direction, the Seneschal takes on a servantile role, and assumes the prestigious duty of managing the Rogue Trader's countless affairs so that he may go on freely visualizing their dreams of achievable grandeur. Or not; after all, there are certain advantages to having such a close hand on all the information and accounts for those more jealous types. Nevertheless, the Seneschal is often the ultimate authority on a Rogue Trader's ship, second only to the Rogue Trader himself.
Void-Master: The ultimate space-dog, Voidmasters come in all shapes and sizes and backgrounds, but they all have in common a complete command over the many nuances of void travel. They are strongly seasoned and we'll learned crew, and there are very few things on a vessel that the Voidmaster either does not know how to do himself, or know how to snap the rest of the crew to do for him. Whether a noble first mate, or a hardened pirate, Rogue Traders are always in need of people who know how to go get shit done when out in the far reaches of the void. They also make excellent pilots.
Rogue Trader: Finally we have the Rogue Trader, the lucky sod who inherited all this. Often nobles, but not always the case, the Rogue Trader is the one in possession of the sacred Warrant of Trade that makes him, and his crew, one of the very few free citizens of Imperium, trusted by authorities of Terra (often many many centuries ago, sometimes even longer) to reach out in the unknown to DO the unknown, on the assumption that it will be, in one way or another, a benefit to the Imperium of Mankind. The Rogue trader is a charming son of a bitch who carries the mantle of Lord Captain and takes his giant ship and ego to chase the dreams of fortune, power, and glory. They come in many varieties, and so do their allies, as well as their enemies. The Rogue trader is often the face and final authority of the venture's endeavors, and while they are trained to command, they simply cannot do it all, and must take careful council of his personal cabinet of expert crew. The legacy that vaulted them into such an honored position will either grow or die with the choices they make.
Hope that helps! Lemme know if you have any questions or concerns.

If we do have a ton of people, then I'm thinking that we might want to do multiple people as the Rogue Trader and have the dynasty in multiple hands.
I would love to play anything but an Explorator. I feel like i should also take myself out of the running for Rogue Trader since I don't feel like having responsibility here, too. Unless people tell me I need to fill that role.
I think it will be lots of fun to design our ship and dynasty together!

Multiple Rogue Traders is certainly fine. Looks like so far Kwak is interested in Explorator, and Coke is interested in Rogue Trader.
Roles I would love to see filled for the sake of ship functions in PC hands: Void-Master, Seneschal, Navigator, Astropath-Transcendant

I'd like to play as the Seneschal if that's ok Course it's okay! Would be glad to have you. Really it's quite alright for multiples of any of the classes, I just want to make sure our bases are covered. Looking through supplement sources, it's become clear that there are many many alternate paths for careers that would split people of the same careers quite wildly. Not to mention that this is a sort of game that lends itself to splitting parties up into different places and tasks.

Speaking of many many alternate paths.... Click Here for a spreadsheet I made that lists every single one of them for every career. This should help save time and make it easier for "duplicates" to fill different roles without having to comb over every single page of the splatbooks

Y'know what.
I'm going to take one of the hardest classes to roleplay and see if I'm up for the challenge.
Calling Navigator.

Ships are huge, there's definitely room. As long as one is willing to post and not vanish without warning and hurt my feelings, all are welcome.

Okay, Nabbicus. Question time:
1) We going to go heavy on Space Combat? 2a) What kind of ship are you looking at us starting in? 2b) What kind of dynasty (in terms of wealth) are you thinking of? 3) Campaign setting? 4) My acquisition of a Good Plasma Pistol to start kosher? 5) Are you ready for another set of questions sometime in the future?

Space combat will assuredly happen, but the level of heaviness will correlate with your own capabilities and the choices you make. I'm not here to destroy you, but I do like things challenging, and not every fight is worth seeing to the end. That said, rest assured that if you're running around in a transport ship I'm not going to force a fight to the death against the Calixian Naval Fleet or anything.
As for the ship itself, I'm going to forego the roll this time and instead create the options of ship vs PF in a poll I shall be creating shortly.
Campaign setting will take place at the edge of the Calixis Sector on into my own little version of the Koronus Expanse.
Your plasma pistol is fine. Pray to the Emperor that it's enough.
I'll be happy to answer any and all questions any of you may have.
